Sam Harris was recently featured in the CBS half hour comedy The Class created by David Crane ("Friends" creator) and Jeffrey Klarik ("Mad About You"). Legendary Director James Burrows ("Friends," "Will & Grace," "Fraser," "Cheers," "Taxi," among many other hits back to the iconic "Mary Tyler Moore Show") has taken on this exciting project. Warner Bros TV is producing. Sam joined the ensemble cast which includes Jason Ritter ("Joan of Arcadia," "Happy Endings"), Lucy Punch ("Being Julia"), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Off B-ways "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"), Lizzy Caplan ("Related," "Mean Girls") Andrea Anders ("Joey"), Jon Bernthal ("How I Met Your Mother") and Heather Goldenhersh ("Tempting Adam").
"The Class" is one of the biggest, if not the top, pilot commitments this year." -- Variety The show revolves around a group who were all in the same third-grade class 20 years ago. Most of the group doesn't keep in touch or even remember one another. They're brought together again by happenstance when one of them throws a surprise anniversary party for his girlfriend -- whom he met in the third grade. Beyond the core eight, Crane and Klarik said the show will be populated by several other recurring characters, giving it a larger scope than traditional half-hours. Sam plays Perry Pearl, married to one of the core group, Holly (played by Punch). "They have separate lives and there are few connections that exist beforehand," Klarik said. "But through the course of the series, connections are made between the characters. It's about following their individual lives -- there's no one living room where they gather." Generally, pilots for upcoming potential series are shot as a test to see if the network will go forward with a series. But due to the prestige of the creators, the series received an unusual order of 13 episodes in advance of the pilot. The commitment and enthusiasm from CBS (The #1 network) is monumental and has received and outstanding viewer response. "This is so exciting for me," said Sam. "It's huge! Funny funny funny. Smart smart smart. Such great writing. I am so honored to be in this group. Just to be in the room with people like Crane and Klarik and Burrows, is a dream come true for me. I'm still pinching myself. Really. I have bruises." NEW YORK POST - 1/16/07: I have yelled about the talent of Sam Harris ever since he raised the rafters with his powerhouse voice on "Star Search." Then I reported that his comic chops were just the greatest when he played Carmen Ghia on Broadway in "The Producers." Sam kept working, but nobody particularly paid my enthusiasm any mind. Now, Sam's antics as Perry Pearl on the new James Burrows-helmed CBS sitcom, "The Class," have made him a highlight of that show. Sam is the comic breakout of the season. The People's Choice Awards picked "The Class" for favorite new TV comedy. And Sam Harris has a lot to do with that, I'm so happy to say! -- Liz Smith
